Last Friday was the First Friday InLight event on Broad Street. The event was planned as a 30 year anniversary celebration of 1708 Gallery with lots of light installations, artists from all over, galleries to be open until midnight, a big event with Broad Street closed off for blocks. Well, we got the remnants of hurricane Hannah. It POURED down on the event right at the start of the Roving Spectacle. The teens had gathered at 1708 Gallery, brought their art poles up from the basement and presented a terrific spectacle inside the gallery. Robert, encouraged by Sarah Hand who had a group of little kids from the Visual Arts Center, convinced me to walk outside, in the rain, with our hardy troupe of kids. Those people who watched got a treat and showed appreciation with clapping and shout outs. The rain didn't last! The wet streets reflected the lights, the art poles rippled, flowed, and reflected light. It was a great success inspite of the rain. Hooray for the teens!
